Tantalizing Type

A following of ongoing projects involving typography.

Of Mice and Men - Redesign

My next type heavy project is an Of Mice and Men book redesign.  I’ll be sure to start uploading photos soon because I want to get it done for my portfolio.  So be on the lookout!

2012 Mantra - Complete

My recently finished project is my 2012 Mantra, a phrase to remember and live by in this year.  My mantra is ‘You will succeed because they are lazy’.  The concept behind the poster is in the execution.  I hand drew the type, corrected it on the computer, printed out a template, and hand embroidered the typography.  The embroidery part of the project totaled around 40 hours.  The letter D in succeed took 4-5 hours.  I learned a great lesson pertaining to my mantra.  The extra hours and work definitely made for a product that stands out and make people take a second look.  The poster in real life is 30 inches long and you can see each threaded detail.  It has a lot more presence than just a digital piece.  This is a work that is going up on my wall and I will always remember the difficult process of going the extra mile and reaping the reward.

I move the hoop to where I am concentrating on the stitching to keep the fabric taught.

I decided to stock up on my blue thread, since I ran out of the first one without even outlining the whole thing!

I can iron on this transfer paper so it sticks to the fabric but it can also peel off easily for when I am done outlining my letters.

This is the template I am going to trace, and a size comparison.

For hand embroidery, this is a sizable feat.

Some sketches of the layout, which I will finalize on the computer.
